Green tea is more than just green liquid.
Many of the bioactive compounds in the tea leaves do make it into the final drink, which contains large amounts of important nutrients.
It is loaded with polyphenols like flavonoids and catechins, which function as powerful antioxidants (1).
These substances can reduce the formation of free radicals in the body, protecting cells and molecules from damage. These free radicals are known to play a role in aging and all sorts of diseases.
One of the more powerful compounds in green tea is the antioxidant Epigallocatechin Gallate (EGCG), which has been studied to treat various diseases and may be one of the main reasons green tea has such powerful medicinal properties.
Green tea also has small amounts of minerals that are important for health.
Try to choose a higher quality brand of green tea, because some of the lower quality brands can contain excessive levels of fluoride (2).
That being said, even if you choose a lower quality brand, the benefits still far outweigh any risk.

❤👉Eyesight👈❤
Do you miss the days when you could flaunt the flawless beauty of your eyes all day long? Do you think that eye makeup is a waste of time because your glasses camouflage the magical charm of your eyes anyway? I have been through a similar experience and wanted to get rid of my eyeglasses for a long time. However, you must understand that there are structural alterations in the eye that result into either myopia (short-sightedness) or hypermetropia (long- sightedness). If you want to get rid of your specs overnight, you can opt to wear contact lenses or undergo laser surgery for vision correction.

You probably might think these are the issues that would never get solved, right? Now that is where you are wrong. Because the following home remedies are so good that they ensure your eyes are back to their best health and that too in the fastest possible way.

Let us take a look at how to increase eyesight in a natural way for better vision.

Natural Ways to Improve Your Eyesight

Food For The Eyes

1. Spinach

Spinach is rich in not only vitamins A, B, C, E, and minerals such as iron and zinc, but also in lutein and zeaxanthin, the chemical components that help keep the eyes healthy. Eating spinach on a daily basis can prevent disorders like macular degeneration and cataract. Spinach also helps to keep the corneas healthy. Many people despise the way spinach tastes and smells. But you can surely get past the smell by adding a zing to spinach.

Add raw spinach to your fruit smoothies or use spinach and parsley to make a green smoothie and consume it daily. The sweetness and flavor of luscious fruits like strawberries and currants camouflage the taste of spinach really well while maintaining its nutrient content. You can make a spinach soup or cook it with pulses. Sandwiches and lasagnas containing fresh spinach taste heavenly. So why not add a twist to spinach and include it in your diet for a sharper vision?

2. Carrots

Carrots are a gorgeous and wholesome vegetable. They are so versatile and give a dish an amazing color. Apart from being scrumptious, carrots are loaded with beta-carotene, which later transforms into vitamin A, that enhances the general wellbeing of the eyes. You can find several recipes for carrot soup on the internet. Add it to the curries and pair it up with other veggies. You can derive maximum nourishment from raw carrots since the cooking process slightly deteriorates its nutritional profile. Munch on a carrot whenever you get an urge to snack or add it to your salads. But remember to drink lots of water, because carrots are high in fiber content.

You can consume one cup of carrot and gooseberry juice on an empty stomach. Like carrots, gooseberries are rich sources of vitamin A and antioxidants.

3. Broccoli

Broccoli is one of the super-foods with amazing health benefits. Including this food in your diet is another natural way to improve eyesight! Like spinach, broccoli too contains vitamin B, lutein, and zeaxanthin. These nutrients not only conserve vision, but also help improve it. Eating broccoli helps keep exhaustion, soreness, and blurred vision at bay. When the eyes are not subjected to a lot of stress, they perform better for longer. Broccoli promotes healthy eyesight by strengthening the eyes and reducing eye fatigue. Baked, grilled, sautéed or raw — broccoli tastes delicious. Toss in a floret or two in your salad, or puree it to make soup, you can incorporate the goodness of broccoli in your diet in numerous ways.

4. Fish

Oily fish like salmon, tuna, mackerel, and sardine are packed with the healthy omega-3 fatty acids. These work like an antioxidant, protecting your eyes from damage caused by the free radicals in the body. The omega-3 fatty acids prevent dryness of the eyes that is generally caused by the use of contact lenses. Eat fish at least twice a week for a noticeable improvement in your vision within a few months. Baking or grilling is the best method of cooking these fish, which keeps its nutrient content intact. For a change, you can even make a sandwich by stuffing the grilled fish between two slices of wholegrain bread and some lettuce, mayo, and seasoning. Who can say no to a properly made tuna fish sandwich?

5. Avocado

Avocado is yet another veggie that contains lutein and beta-carotene. It is loaded with vitamin B, C, and E as well. As I mentioned before, lutein works wonders for your eyes. It is a photochemical that brings down your eyes’ sensitivity towards light. This ultimately reduces the strain on the eyes and promotes healthy vision in the long run. Make some guacamole and enjoy the guilt-free dip with your favorite nachos. Or how about a luscious and creamy avocado soup? Regular consumption is the best way to improve eyesight.

6. Berries

Berries are bursting with not only tangy flavors, but also with the goodness of abundant antioxidants. They contain a component named rhodopsin, which accelerates cellular regeneration that is vital for maintaining healthy eyes. The nutrients found in berries like blackberries, cranberries, and blueberries fortify the blood vessels and improve the blood circulation throughout the body, including the eyes. This also keeps swelling and irritation of eyes at bay and enhances the quality of your vision.

7. Nuts

Like fish, nuts too contain omega-3 fatty acids that keep your eyesight on track. So, don’t shy away from gorging on a handful of almonds, walnuts or cashews. Avoid eating roasted or processed nut. Go for fresh and raw nuts instead.

Simply soak almonds in hot water and peel off their skin. Add these almonds to one tablespoon of pure honey. Consume daily to improve weak eyesight.

8. Dry Fruits

Soak 15 raisins and two figs overnight in a bowl of water. Eat them on an empty stomach the next morning. The high amount of fiber and vitamins in these dry fruits help speed up the digestive processes and help the body get rid of toxins. This would thereby help to resolve eye-related problems.

9. Chocolates

Chocolates, particularly the dark ones, are rich in flavonoid, a sort of antioxidant which is good for the retina and cornea. A piece of dark chocolate twice a week won’t hurt. So go ahead and indulge yourself in the sinful goodness of chocolate.

10. Eggs

Eggs comprise of a lot of proteins. Proteins are the building blocks of our body. If you want the cellular regeneration process in your eyes to take place at a right pace, you need to supply your body with high-quality proteins. The egg yolk is surely a winner in this case. Why not crack up an egg or two and make a ‘sunny side up’ in a capsicum ring to make a funky breakfast?

11. Black Pepper With Honey

Adding a dash of black pepper to one tablespoon pure honey proves effective in treating weak eyesight. You can consume it every day.

12. Wild Rose Tea

Drink a cup of wild rose tea every day. Wild rose consists of vitamins B1, B2, C, P, K, E, and A. It also contains iron, calcium, sodium, manganese, and organic acids. These vitamins maintain the elasticity of the eye.

13. Honey And Cardamom

Consume one tablespoon of honey mixed with a few cardamom seeds. This is another remedy that would offer a significant benefit to your eye.

14. Consume Water Stored In A Copper Vessel

Store one liter of water in a copper vessel overnight and drink it the next morning. Copper lends innumerable healing properties to the eyes and other vital organs.

15. Sugar – Coriander Eye Drop Solution

Mix one part of sugar with three parts of coriander. Grind both of them together until you get a paste. Boil this paste in water and cover it for an hour. Use a clean cotton cloth and sieve this solution. This is to be used as your eyedrop solution.

16. Mud Pack

To relax and rejuvenate your eyes, apply a mud pack on the eyelids. This will also help in releasing pressure and relaxing your strained nerves.

17. Blink More Often

Blinking your eyes after every few seconds is the best way to reduce straining and fatigue of the eyes. It is the easiest and unfortunately the most neglected exercise for the eyes. As you blink, the eyes go into the dark phase for a moment, which keeps them fresh and releases stress. It’s like giving your eyes a break so that they can focus better for longer. People using computers often forget to blink their eyes, because they are so engrossed in whatever they are doing. You must blink your eyes every four to five seconds to avoid fatigue, strain, and irritation.

18. Rotating Exercise With Eyes Open

Circling the eyes is a great way to get rid of any stiffness and fatigue. It’s a really simple exercise, but the best way to improve eyesight. Sit down comfortably. You need to rotate your eyes as your look up, sideways and down. First, rotate your eyes clockwise five times. Then, do the same in an anti-clockwise manner. This routine will ease any stiffness in the muscles around the eyes, making them flexible and ultimately reducing the stress on the eyes that otherwise can worsen your vision over time.

19. Rotating Exercise With Eyes Closed

This is a very therapeutic workout for the eyes. This workout is just the same as the one mentioned above, but needs to be performed with closed eyes. Gently close your eyes as you sit back or lie down. Move your eyes in a circular motion in a clockwise and then anticlockwise direction, five times each. The purpose is to relieve the eye muscles, strengthen the blood vessels, and amplify the blood circulation and supply of oxygen.

20. Working On Focus

This is a very interesting and equally effective workout for the eyes and takes just a couple of minutes. A fast way to improve eyesight! You need to sit down comfortably. Extend your hand and focus on your index finger. Focus on it for a few seconds. Now shift your focus from the finger to another object placed at a distance of ten feet. Focus on that object for a few seconds and come back to the finger again. Continue this exercise for two minutes to reinforce the muscles around the eyes and enhance your eyesight.

21. Maintaining Focus

This is a variation of the above-mentioned exercise. When seated in a comfortable position, stretch your arm in front of you and stick your index finger up and straight. Focus on the finger. Now, slowly bring the finger closer to your face till it’s just four inches away. Now stretch out your arm again. Try maintaining the focus on the moving finger. If done regularly, this exercise improves your eyesight to a considerable extent overtime.

22. Palming

This is not particularly an exercise, but it relaxes your eyes as well as the mind. It is a great way to take a break from the computer or the TV. Sit in a chair in front of a table. Take a couple of deep breaths. Bend forward a little to rest your elbows on the desk. Slightly fold over your hands to form a cup with your palms. Place the palms on your eyes so that your fingertips touch your forehead and the heel of your hand is on the cheeks. Do not exert pressure on your eyes with your palms. Make sure you can blink with ease in the cup of your palms. Take slow deep breaths. You will be amazed at how relaxed you feel after resting your eyes like that.

23. Apply A Little Pressure

This is also an exercise that relieves stiffness and fatigue of the eye muscles, making you feel at ease. It involves applying light pressure with your fingertips on some areas of your face, particularly those above the eyes. You need to be comfortably seated with eyes closed. Slightly curl your fingers so that all the four fingertips are in alignment. Place the fingertips on the area above each eye, i.e., just above the eyebrows. You have to place them in such a way that the index fingers touch the inner end of the eyebrows. Apply gentle pressure with your fingertips on that area and smoothly make your way towards the outer side of the eyebrows, i.e., towards the temple. Come back to the inner side of the eyebrows again. Repeat the motion 10 times and you will feel really refreshed.

24. Splash!

We never forget to wash our face several times in a day. But it is important to wash the eyes too, particularly every night before going to bed and every morning after waking up. You can use water that is at room temperature. During winters, you can use lukewarm water because chilled water can make your eyes dry. Use drinking water for this splashing routine. Splashing your eyes with water will wash out the dust and dirt, and provide moisture as well.

Protection And Hygiene

Certain measures should be followed to protect your eye vision and overall eye health.

Avoid sitting close to the television screen or computer monitor.
Avoid using these devices for long periods of time and at a continuous stretch. Look away from the monitor occasionally and rest your eyes every few minutes.
Avoid exposing your eyes to the harsh sun rays, smoke, dust and strong winds. Wear sunglasses to avoid the strong glare of the sun.
Wear swimming goggles to protect your eyes from chlorinated water in the swimming pool or debris in the ocean.
Read and work in a well-lit area to avoid eye strain.
Look away and rest your eyes every few minutes.
Practice some basic eye exercises, like closing your eyelids and gently massaging your eyeballs.
Soak a ball of cotton in cold rose water and place it on your eyelid for 5-10 minutes.
Wash or sanitize your hands regularly. Regularly use eye drops to avoid dry eyes.
When it comes to improving vision, a combination of right food, exercise, and taking proper care of the eyes can yield favorable results. The overall health of your eyes depends on certain nutrients, such as vitamin A and C, bioflavonoids, carotenoids, omega-3 fatty acids, minerals, and antioxidants. Incorporating these nutrients into your diet will help improve your eyesight. Apart from the food items mentioned above, sweet potato, kale, Swiss chard, turnips, and mustard leaves also contain vitamin A. Peppers are rich sources of vitamin C that is essential for maintaining the overall health of your eyes.

Proper nutrition strengthens your eyes while proper exercise de-stresses your extra-ocular muscles. Healthy muscles and enhanced blood circulation promote healthier vision. The key to an enhanced vision is perseverance and patience, because there is no shortcut to improved eyesight when you take the natural path.

While it is not quite possible to eliminate the vision problem altogether, you can definitely bring the power of your eyeglasses down by several points in a matter of few months. You must wear your spectacles, whenever needed. Many people don’t wear spectacles, thinking that it hides the beauty of their overall look. However, not wearing spectacles can lead to further deterioration of vision. So, stick to your glasses, eat healthy, give your eyes a gentle workout and slowly but surely, your eyesight will improve!

Forget Wi-Fi. Meet the new Li-Fi Internet

What if we could use existing technologies to provide Internet access to the more than 4 billion people living in places where the infrastructure can't support it? Using off-the-shelf LEDs and solar cells, Harald Haas and his team have pioneered a new technology that transmits data using light, and it may just be the key to bridging the digital divide. Take a look at what the future of the Internet could look like.

Li-Fi is, in no way, Replacing Wi-Fi. They have very different uses. Lifi can only receive data.. at the moment.. We can use this technology to bring internet around the world; not for upload, but download. Imagine transmitting the encyclopedia britanica, and any digitized book, to schools in the Congo for virtually no cost. I for one can't wait until we develop more solar-based technology. Maybe then we'll start investing in it because apparently global warming and dissapearing landmass is not reason enough. Maybe if we offer people faster internet, they'll consider it.
Like all existing tech in this world, Li-Fi has its limits as well. Just like Wi-Fi, its speed will depend on the initial potential speed of the data being delivered by the ISP, or your internet service provider. If you happen to choose a cheaper package or service that does not offer you sufficient speeds, then the speeds of Li-Fi will be absolutely worthless for your requirement. Also, you have to keep in mind that Li-Fi also depends on your device being within range of the light being transmitted by your Li-Fi bulb. In short, you will actually have to see the source of light in order to connect to a wireless network.

Begin to play a game of Monopoly

Your friend gets to play using the normal rules. He starts the game with $1,500 in cash, and, every time he passes "Go," he gets $200. He uses two dice to move around the board.

You, however, only get $300 at the start of the game, and you get just $50 every time you pass "Go." You use one die to move around the board.

The two of you play for an hour or so. At that point, your friend has accumulated many properties, built several houses, and has over a thousand in cash.

You, however, are not doing so well. You have no houses, just two properties (and one is mortgaged to pay for last turn's rent), and your cash is $60.

You then proclaim that the game isn't fair. Your friend agrees. The two of you both start getting $200 every time you pass "Go" and you both use two dice to move around the board.

How long do you think it will take you to even up the game? Or will your friend continue to benefit from the lead he built based on the advantages he had for so long?

That, in a greatly simplified nutshell, is the economics of systemic inequality.

And whether that inequality is based on race or gender or sexuality or religion or some other factor, the effects of long-term, inherited disadvantages perpetuated over generations cannot suddenly be erased simply by giving everyone access to the same rules.

Female Werewolf

Werewolves have existed in folklore in one form or another for thousands of years, originating from proto-Indo-European mythology and later appearing in other cultures. The term "werewolf" means "wolf man" in Old English, similar to the "wolf skin" of Slavic or "wolf human" (lycanthrope) derived from Ancient Greek. Some were thought to shapeshift between forms on will, while others were believed to be cursed. A lesser known attribute of the witch hunts in Medieval Europe was the simultaneous persecution of those considered to be werewolves. Not a nice time to live.
The beautiful character Volchista is a werewolf, and uses her attractiveness to lure the giant wolf Vedrir into battle.

Cheetara Workout

When your body is the ultimate weapon and speed is your thing, muscle control is critical. The Cheetara workout is there to push you your main muscles, supporting muscle groups and tendons to the level where you can make them work for you.

What it works: Calves, lower abs, front hip flexors, core, glutes, lower back, hamstrings, obliques, abs, cardiovascular system, aerobic capacity (VO2 Max).

Instructions: Repeat each move with no rest in between until the set is done, rest up to 2 minutes and repeat the whole set again 3, 5 or 7 times depending on your fitness level.

What it works: Calves, lower abs, front hip flexors, core, glutes, lower back, hamstrings, obliques, abs, cardiovascular system, aerobic capacity (VO2 Max).

Make it better:  When performing High Knees aim to take your knees past your waist height. It challenges your front hip flexors and lower abs and helps you load critical muscle groups for speed.

Make it harder: Reduce rest time between sets to 60 seconds and challenge your aerobic capacity no matter what level you do this workout at.

Body types this can work for: Like most of our bodyweight workouts this will work for every body type. Ectomorphs with their lower body mass may find it a tad easier, but there's not much to it.

Perfect for: Speedsters who use their skills to overcome every obstacle in every situation. Plus anybody who is interested in adding a little more control to their bodies and a little more zap tot heir movements.

Warmup & Stretching

During a workout we can all go from zero to hero and push hard but the safe way to train is to bring the body’s temperature up slowly and loosen up the muscles before we get to do anything serious. That’s what warmups are designed to do. Stretching, on the other hand, is done in order to improve overall flexibility. Once muscles have worked they are at their most compliant state and they let us stretch further than we normally would gaining more ground while we are at it.

Timing: We start with a warmup and then we finish our training session with stretching.

Warmups are critical to a better performance and fewer injuries but stretching is somewhat of an optional extra - we can do it, we should do it but not doing it will not cause any issues, most times.

Warmups

Most warmups don’t take very long, just two-three minutes or so. To benefit us the most a warmup should work the same muscles we will be engaging during the main workout - they should include lighter exercises or a toned down version of the training ahead.

Examples
If you are a runner, your best warmup is a light jog.
If you are doing martial arts training a warmup should also include a few light kicks and punches.
If you are doing bodyweight workouts basic body (neck, arms, torso, legs) rotations will get your blood flowing.

With bodyweight training we can do without an actual warmup if we use one of the sets to warmup and get into it, moving at a slower pace, jumping lower and moving slower.

The temperature of when and where you workout plays a difference. In winter our body keeps most of the blood flow away from our extremities so warming up will take longer. In summer with higher ambient temperatures, the body is already half-warmed up and our muscles are loose. Many Olympic athletes tend to ‘chase the sun’ for that reason training in Australia and California so they spend all year in a summer environment.

Stretching

Everyone can get flexible if they work at it. Some people have a natural gift for flexibility others have to struggle to gain every little bit but everyone can get there. It takes persistence and regular training and the muscles adapt and respond.

The best time to stretch is post-workout when our muscles are completely relaxed, thoroughly warmed up and capable of giving us the most stretch, easiest. When muscles are really well warmed up they exhibit a high degree of plasticity. That means that not only do they stretch but after stretching and cooling down they maintain an increased range of movement and display greater flexibility.

This is the reason why everyone should stretch: range of movement. Whether you are a boxer or a ballet dancer your sport will necessitate your muscles performing by working through a range of motion. Muscles that are tight and constricted tend to work against each other to perform the move. That means that energy which should be used in the move itself is actually soaked up by fighting against the muscles themselves and the supporting muscle groups. This leeches away power.

Obviously boxers and ballet dancers do different types of stretching and focus on different muscle groups but they stretch for the same reasons.

Stretching Pre or Post workout

When we stretch pre-workout muscle temperature is low and we have done nothing to warm up. So we are trying to force muscles that are stiff and tight to extend their range of motion. When forced this can cause microtears in the muscle itself which result in instability when performing and studies have shown that this can lead to injuries.

When we stretch post-workout our muscles are tired and they are thoroughly warmed up. Tired muscles have a lower relaxation point so they will stretch further with passive stretching, i.e. when an external force is applied on them, like when you are stretching with a partner who helps you get your thigh to your chest by pushing your leg against it while you are lying flat on your back. They will also stretch further with active stretching, where you use your body’s momentum and the movement of your limbs to make your muscles stretch.

Studies have shown that when your muscles are warmed up and you hold a stretch position for up to 30 seconds you can significantly increase your range of motion. This allows your body to increase its power without having to increase muscle mass.

By using a warmup before you exercise and a stretching routine after your workout you succeed in helping your muscles perform better, be more resilient, generate more power and be less prone to injury. These are all gains which help you achieve more with less effort and better results.

Becoming an accidental hero deserter or role model

Disconnecting yourself is a truly strange feeling, especially when you've got followers. Now that Google+ has been around for quite some time, I've had the opportunity to engage with it and the people on it in varying degrees of intensity. From checking it all the time to not checking for months, my interest and availability has ebbed and flowed. What I struggle with is A) whether I view this platform as a place for fun or more like a job and B) people's expectations of me.

What I've found is that you can accidentally become someone's role model, enemy, hero, or biggest deserter. Every way someone paints you in their head will affect you. They will project their expectations on you, imagine themselves as more meaningful than they actually are to you, or think that they have a close connection to you because they've been following your posts. This is the part that freaks me out the most and something I'm written about before. People can be truly hurt by you when you haven't done anything.

My actions affect people in unintended ways. I can ruin someone's day by not checking notifications. If I miss someone's important life event because I'm out of town, that person can think I'm heartless. When I took some time off here on Google+, I felt the need to tell people. It's another obligation, but that's one I think is reasonable.

There are so many people here that I still deeply care about. Even if we don't talk every single day, there are many, many people that I would help out if they reached out to me. It's possible that I'm projecting my attitude about taking a step back onto other people, but I think the lesson I'm learning is that I can't be responsible the way I make people feel sometimes - even if they've helped me in an online capacity. When you someone thinks you owe them something you don't, it gets messy. All you can really do is apologize and move on.

Ministering Cross-Culturally

So, I‘m reading this thought-provoking book called Ministering Cross-Culturally by Lingenfelter and Mayers. It‘s about using the Incarnation as a model for cross-cultural relational evangelism. Obviously, I‘m finding it very relevant to my situation.

A lot of the book is about recognizing that just because a culture perceives something as right or wrong doesn‘t mean it necessarily is. For example, a meeting runs over and the group waiting to use the facility next rings a bell to demand the turnover. In Germany the group running late is at fault and considered very rude and the bell ringers are right. On the island of Yap, it would be exactly the opposite. The bell ringers would be very rude and the group running over innocent.

Personal example: I perceive selfies to be immature, vain, and narcisistic (sp?) Asia thinks they‘re fun and a way to bond and connect. I prefer to take unposed shots of what‘s happening. Asia thinks picture-taking is an event happening in and of itself.

So, yesterday when I ran into two 8th graders from
#寧中 hanging out at 7-Eleven taking selfies together I resisted the urge to tease them about not having anything better to do and asked them if I could take some with them. Honestly, because of the insider-outside mentality being so strong here in #金門 I was expecting them to say no or at least be reluctant about it. But they were delighted, discussed at length what template to use, chose 4 poses and reshot several times to get it just right.

I still don‘t like selfies, but I sure did like the connection we had.

Changuu Island, Zanzibar

Changuu Island (also known as Kibandiko, Prison or Quarantine Island) is a small island 5.6 km north-west of Stone Town, Unguja, Zanzibar. The island is around 800m long and 230m wide at its broadest point. The island saw use as a prison for rebellious slaves in 1860s and also functioned as a coral mine. The British First Minister of Zanzibar, Lloyd Mathews, purchased the island in 1893 and constructed a prison complex there. No prisoners were ever housed on the island and instead it became a quarantine station for yellow fever cases. The station was only occupied for around half of the year and the rest of the time it was a popular holiday destination. More recently the island has become a government-owned tourist resort and houses a collection of endangered Aldabra giant tortoises which were originally a gift from the British governor of the Seychelles. Visitors are able to observe and feed the tortoises.

A Solar Home

A Solar Home : We decided to investigate the possibility of living off grid. Considering there are many variables to look at, it may not be possible in all places. But here is some interesting information which you can look at from the viewpoint of Solar Energy.

Build in the costs : First look at the property you are looking at. There are many ways in which one can implement solar panels. Unfortunately, there are varying degrees of quality and efficiency as well as stability and irradiance. So it needs to be sized for the area you have available and the kind of power you consume.

Off-grid may not be ideal : Considering solar is is coming close to the price of grid power, you may want to sell to the grid. This is an ideal situation, so you would not require to have batteries to store power. You would still need an inverter to convert the DC to AC.... but that is unavoidable. If you keep moving power back to the grid, you can end up with a nice annuity income.

Capital costs: The highest costs are those of the land. Other costs such as the actual house, solar cells and the installation are usually a fraction of the land costs. In some countries, there are subsidies to allow you to lease the cells. If you do not consider the land and building costs, the cost of the project would depend on what you use. For a 1kWh system the pricing is around $2,000 in some countries.  This used to be $30,000 just 5 years back!

Future technologies : The case for solar technology is that power costs are always on the rise. We are also on the cusp of some very exciting tech such as OPV (Organic Photovoltaics) which are expected to crash the pricing down due to the lower cost of material and bulk processing (Roll to roll). These are semi-transparent flexible solar cells which are being refined. (Degradation and efficiency is still an issue). While the costs are expected to be less than 1/3rd of the current 1st and 2nd generation solar cells, the lifetime is also not more than 3-4 years (80% efficiency) and efficiencies are being improved as I write this. But organic photovoltaics may one day be on the roof of your car or the blinds on your windows.

FIFA World Cup 2014

As the FIFA World Cup 2014 begins, people from all around the world cheer for their favourite teams Angela Stewart (C), a Brazilian soccer fan originally from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, celebrates after a Brazilian goal in the Brazil vs. Croatia World Cup game at Legends Bar on June 12, 2014 in New York City. Brazil vs Croatia is the first game of the World Cup, which will take place throughout Brazil until Sunday, July 13.

This was such an outstanding match and a great show by Ghana especially! I will be the first to admit that I never expected Ghana to come anywhere near close to even a draw against Germany because of Germany's brilliant performance against Portugal. But was I wrong! They actually almost beat Germany and that would have been super amazing!

Ghana played an excellent defense that frustrated every move that Germany was trying to make keeping the game 0-0 at half time. Germany had to dig deep to find a move that managed to get them their 1st goal as a great cross managed to find a well placed Mario Götze that only needed a great touch to knock it in. But Ghana who also brought an excellent forward kept pushing that ball and creating excellent chances and only 3 minutes later managed to equalize when as good a cross as Germany found a perfectly placed André #Ayew that scored a perfect header. That is another one of FIFA World Cup best goals of 2014! But Ghana was not yet done as that goal gave them more energy and momentum and 9 minutes later, a poor move of not clearing the ball by Germany landed at Asamoah #Gyan feet who did not waste time punishing Germany for their poor judgement as he made a run to the net and the goalkeeper had no chance of stopping his perfect strike that put that ball behind the net! Ghana had a 2-1 lead and for the first time Germany was in serious trouble! Two much needed and key substitutions by them helped them equalize when Miroslav Klose headed the ball in from a corner kick just 8 minutes later. Ghana still kept their game going and both their defense and forward kept on doing what they needed to do as they prevented Germany from adding to the scoreline with some excellent saves but they also kept pressing for another goal right down to the final whistle.

It was most definitely a brilliant match that showed us that Germany is beatable and that Ghana is not to be taken for granted! I feel that Ghana played a way better game than Germany and deserved the win but at least this 2-2 draw keeps them alive. They without a doubt made every African proud with their brilliant show today and we would like to see plenty more and even better from them!

WORLD BLOOD DONOR DAY 14 JUNE

2014 THEME: SAFE BLOOD FOR SAVING MOTHERS

World Blood Donor Day is celebrated every 14th of June and it encourages people to give blood and save lives without asking for anything in return. Blood donor day serves to raise awareness of the need for safe blood. Transfusion of blood and blood products helps save millions of lives every year. It can help patients suffering from life-threatening conditions live longer and with higher quality of life, and supports complex medical and surgical procedures.
Transfusion of blood and blood products helps save millions of lives every year. It can help patients suffering from life-threatening conditions live longer and with higher quality of life, and supports complex medical and surgical procedures. It also has an essential, life-saving role in maternal and perinatal care. Access to safe and sufficient blood and blood products can help reduce rates of death and disability due to severe bleeding during delivery and after childbirth.
In many countries, there is not an adequate supply of safe blood, and blood services face the challenge of making sufficient blood available, while also ensuring its quality and safety. An adequate supply can only be assured through regular donations by voluntary unpaid blood donors. WHO’s goal is for all countries to obtain all their blood supplies from voluntary unpaid donors by 2020. In 2014, 60 countries have their national blood supplies based on 99-100% voluntary unpaid blood donations, with 73 countries still largely dependent on family donors and paid donors.

Every year, on 14 June, countries around the world celebrate World Blood Donor Day. The event raises awareness of the need for safe blood and blood products and to thank voluntary unpaid blood donors for their life-saving gifts of blood. Every day, about 800 women die from pregnancy or childbirth-related complications. Almost all of these deaths occur in developing countries. More than half of them occur in sub-Saharan Africa and almost one third in South Asia. The risk of maternal mortality is highest for adolescent girls under 15 years of age. Severe bleeding during delivery and after childbirth is a major cause of mortality, morbidity and long-term disability. However, access to safe and sufficient blood and blood products and the rational and safe use of blood transfusion still remain major challenges in many countries around the world. The objectives of this year’s global campaign:

1) Ministries of health, particularly in countries with high rates of maternal mortality, to take concrete steps towards ensuring that health facilities in their countries improve access to safe blood and blood products from volunteer donors for women giving birth.

2) National blood services in countries with high rates of maternal mortality to focus on safe blood for mothers in their activities and products for the 2014 campaign.

3) Maternal health programmes and partnerships engage in the 2014 campaign.

4) WHO and partners throughout the world highlight how safe blood from voluntary donors can save women’s lives everywhere.

Good Day.
2014: Safe blood for saving mothers
The focus of the WBDD 2014 campaign, marked on 14 June 2014, is “Safe blood for saving mothers”. The goal of the campaign is to increase awareness about why timely access to safe blood and blood products is essential for all countries as part of a comprehensive approach to prevent maternal deaths.

June 8 is World Oceans Day

World Oceans Day is celebrated around the world every June 8th. Together we have the power to protect the ocean!
Imagine having 8 long, twisty, STICKY tentacles to keep track of at all times! It's a bit overwhelming - which is why the octopus's brain doesn't even bother keeping track.

So how does it keep from getting all tangled up? Researchers havediscovered that the octopus produces a chemical in its skin that temporarily prevents its suckers from grabbing. That way, it doesn't tie itself into a knot.

Nearly 4,000 Los Angeles kids, teachers and volunteers sent a giant message from the ocean as part of the 21st annual Kids Ocean Day Adopt-A-Beach Clean-Up in LA.

These kids are alerting the world about the need to help the ocean and protect it from the trash and plastic litter that flow down the streets, killing marine life

It gets weirder - the octopus can temporarily "turn off" this chemical... which was discovered when an octopus grabbed its own amputated arm (for what reason, who can say!)

Big Major Cay, a very special island in the Bahamas, is also known as Pig Beach. And it's not hard to guess why!

About 20 feral pigs and pgilets the island home. They run freely over the island and take regular dips in the wonderful blue water.

Nobody knows exactly how the pigs got there - some say shipwreck. Nowadays the pigs are joined by a few stray cats, goats, and of course adoring tourists.

Sharks are known for their teeth - and it's true that they're very hungry creatures. A Great White Shark in average eats 11 tones of food a year!

Humans on the other hand, barely manage to eat around half a ton of food every year.

Take a selfie for the sea and show the world how you're part of the solution for the ocean.

World NO Smoking Day

The World No Tobacco Day is observed around the world every year on May 31. It is meant to encourage a 24-hour period of abstinence from all forms of tobacco consumption across the globe. The day is further intended to draw global attention to the widespread prevalence of tobacco use and to negative health effects, which currently lead to 5.4 million deaths worldwide annually. The member states of the World Health Organization (WHO) created World No Tobacco Day (WNTD) in 1987. This is the 24th year of the World No Tobacco Day

Hyderabad being an important city in the global parlance also conducts the World No Tobacco Walk every year.

This year, the walk for the World No Tobacco Day - Hyderabad will be taking place at Necklace road, Opposite People's Plaza

Everyday, tens of thousands of people quit smoking by dying

1 in 2 smokers will die early. The new DontBeThe1 TV ad from FreshSmokeFree is encouraging smokers to quit and to be around longer for their loved ones.
