As the FIFA World Cup 2014 begins, people from all around the world cheer for their favourite teams Angela Stewart (C), a Brazilian soccer fan originally from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, celebrates after a Brazilian goal in the Brazil vs. Croatia World Cup game at Legends Bar on June 12, 2014 in New York City. Brazil vs Croatia is the first game of the World Cup, which will take place throughout Brazil until Sunday, July 13.
This was such an outstanding match and a great show by Ghana especially! I will be the first to admit that I never expected Ghana to come anywhere near close to even a draw against Germany because of Germany's brilliant performance against Portugal. But was I wrong! They actually almost beat Germany and that would have been super amazing!
Ghana played an excellent defense that frustrated every move that Germany was trying to make keeping the game 0-0 at half time. Germany had to dig deep to find a move that managed to get them their 1st goal as a great cross managed to find a well placed Mario Götze that only needed a great touch to knock it in. But Ghana who also brought an excellent forward kept pushing that ball and creating excellent chances and only 3 minutes later managed to equalize when as good a cross as Germany found a perfectly placed André #Ayew that scored a perfect header. That is another one of FIFA World Cup best goals of 2014! But Ghana was not yet done as that goal gave them more energy and momentum and 9 minutes later, a poor move of not clearing the ball by Germany landed at Asamoah #Gyan feet who did not waste time punishing Germany for their poor judgement as he made a run to the net and the goalkeeper had no chance of stopping his perfect strike that put that ball behind the net! Ghana had a 2-1 lead and for the first time Germany was in serious trouble! Two much needed and key substitutions by them helped them equalize when Miroslav Klose headed the ball in from a corner kick just 8 minutes later. Ghana still kept their game going and both their defense and forward kept on doing what they needed to do as they prevented Germany from adding to the scoreline with some excellent saves but they also kept pressing for another goal right down to the final whistle.
It was most definitely a brilliant match that showed us that Germany is beatable and that Ghana is not to be taken for granted! I feel that Ghana played a way better game than Germany and deserved the win but at least this 2-2 draw keeps them alive. They without a doubt made every African proud with their brilliant show today and we would like to see plenty more and even better from them!
