Never Underestimate the Link between Relationships & Success Online

This is something anyone who grew up in a small town or a close-knit neighborhood in a city knows almost instinctively: the relationships you build will be key to your future success.

We tend to forget that online though, in our fascination with tools and metrics and such. But not only does it work the same way here, but online has the potential to super-amplify the effect of good relationship building.

 is sort of the  of Bing, insofar as he is the most public face of that search engine. Duane travels to a lot of conferences, so I end up bumping into him several times a year.

While Duane is a great speaker, what you remember most if you've ever been at a conference with him is seeing him engage with people, in the expo hall, at meals, in the hallways...wherever you are you'll see Duane being his super-friendly self, and giving anyone who comes up to him his full attention.

Duane makes lots of friends.

Now here's the thing: Without Duane I'd probably rarely, if ever, use Bing. I'm pretty satisfied with Google most of the time. But because of the encounters I've had with Duane, because of how open he is to answering questions and helping users, I'm more inclined to give Bing a try more often.

This starts with you.  You hold the key to your success online and it is determined by how open your mind is to changing thought processes.  It is not determined by how much content you produce, it's not determined by how many followers you have on social, but it is determined by how you treat those around you .

The building of success starts with a simple principle that most people forget about when they come online... Relationships.

Let Me Tell You A Story

I have a brother-in-law by the name of Daniel Tharp that came to Virginia from the beaches of Florida (don't ask me why) and he met my sister and they started hitting it off.  Well ol' Daniel is one of those people that knows everyone!  I was surprised at how many people actually knew him within a month of moving to the town of Richlands...these were people that had been around me all of my life that I hadn't made an attempt to get to know, yet here he was, fresh out of gatorland, making friends with everyone!

That was almost 15 years ago.  3 years ago, Dan decided to open up a restaurant here in town.  When he was ready to open the doors he made 1 phone call.

To my surprise, the whole town showed up in support of his endeavor.  Even today, the place rocks with business and it even grabs people from out of town too!  And Daniel makes friends with everyone that comes in the door.

You don't need Advertising

In order to start a successful business on the internet, all you need is to be friendly to people.  Helpful to others, and be a true servant to people's wants and needs.  I've seen this firsthand and this works!

Sure it can!  Listen, I'm no power marketer like the guys over at +Plus Your Business! and I'm definitely not as smart at Google Authorship nor am I sound in the Art of SEO like  but I do know how to make a friend, and that's needed in the marketing strategy that you should be doing in 2014.
