relative of mine sharks for a living, no joke. He one time decided to take my
dad out hunting with him once. As they were loading the boat, which was about
20 feet, he hands my dad a shotgun and says "Do you know how to use one of
these?" My dad says yes, and he replies, "Good! Shoot it in the eye
or we're dead."
So they set out, crushed a few beers an ate lunch all the while trawling for sharks, when they finally caught one. It was a 25 footer, substantially bigger than the boat, and he did NOT like being tied to the boat. My uncle was screaming SHOOT IT SHOOT IT!!! and my father made the shot straight to the eye. They towed the beast back to port and sold it for a nice price.
Here's the moral of this story.
For every idiot who says sharks aren't dangerous and shouldn't be hunted, there's a hardworking man supporting his family off that shark and a reduced risk of someone on that coastline being killed. While it's true that not all sharks are aggressive, they can and will take a chomp if they're hungry at the time. Furthermore, most shark fishermen are made out to be jackasses who only cut off the fins and dump the shark back into the water. While 90% of fishermen aren't like this, it's important to keep in mind that most of the shark is completely worthless. The fins are some of the only meat on the shark, and are considered a delicacy. These are just my thoughts on the matter.
